In laser marking machines, the front and rear mirrors are important optical components used to adjust and control the path of the laser beam; Beam expander and combiner are optical components used to adjust the characteristics of laser beams and merge multiple laser beams, respectively.

Front Mirror

Function: The front mirror is mainly used to reflect the laser beam onto a predetermined path, thereby guiding the laser beam to the marking position. It is usually located between the laser and the marking head.

Working principle: The front mirror utilizes a high reflectivity optical coating to ensure minimal energy loss of the laser beam during reflection while maintaining beam quality. It can be a flat mirror or a slightly curved mirror surface, depending on the specific design requirements of the system.

End Mirror

Function: The rearview mirror is mainly used for laser reflection and feedback inside the laser cavity. It plays a role in forming an optical resonant cavity in the laser, allowing the laser to reflect back and forth inside the cavity and be amplified, ultimately forming a stable laser output.

Working principle: The rearview mirror is usually a semi reflective semi lens, where a portion of the light is reflected back to the laser medium for further amplification, while the other portion is transmitted to form the output laser. Its reflectivity and transmittance are precisely controlled according to the design requirements of the laser.

Beam Combiner

Function: Beam combining mirror is used to merge multiple laser beams from different lasers into one beam, usually used in multi wavelength laser systems or applications that increase laser power.

Working principle: Beam combiners typically use polarization or wavelength selectivity principles. Common beam combiners include polarizing beam combiners (utilizing the principle of polarization splitting) and dispersive beam combiners (utilizing the dispersion characteristics of light of different wavelengths).

Beam Expander

Function: The beam expander is mainly used to increase the diameter of the laser beam while reducing its divergence angle. By expanding the beam, the collimation and quality of the laser beam can be improved, thereby maintaining high energy density and beam quality in long-distance transmission or fine processing.

Working principle: A beam expander usually consists of a set of lenses, including a negative lens (diverging lens) and a positive lens (converging lens). The laser beam first passes through a negative lens to diverge, and then through a positive lens to make it parallel or slightly converge, resulting in an enlarged parallel laser beam.

Dear friend

Given that the distinction between front and end mirror is not particularly clear, it is difficult for customers to distinguish between them. Here are some methods to distinguish between front and end mirror, as shown in the figure on the right.

End Mirror:White background is pale pink, reflecting green.

Front Mirror:White background is close to transparency, reflecting blue.
